What it does
Cameyo (now Cameyo by Google) is a cloud-native Virtual App Delivery (VAD) platform. It allows organizations to stream legacy Windows applications directly to any device — such as Chromebooks, Macs, or tablets — through a web browser, without the need for a full virtual desktop.
Following its acquisition by Google in June 2024, it has become the primary bridge for companies transitioning to ChromeOS who still need to run critical “Windows-only” software (like AutoCAD, QuickBooks, or legacy ERPs).
Core Features (2026 Update)
- Virtual App Delivery (VAD): Unlike traditional VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) which gives you a whole Windows desktop, Cameyo only streams the specific application window. This uses significantly less bandwidth and resources.
- Progressive Web Apps (PWA): You can “install” a Windows app via Cameyo so it appears in your taskbar and launches in its own window, making it feel like a local app.
- Zero-Trust Security: Since the app is running in a secure data center and only “streaming” the pixels to your device, no data ever resides on the local hardware. It integrates with Chrome Enterprise Premium for advanced data loss prevention (DLP).
- Gemini AI Integration: As of 2026, Google's Gemini AI can “see” and assist users within apps streamed via Cameyo, providing summaries or troubleshooting even for older software that doesn't have native AI.
- Session Sync: User settings and files follow them from one session to the next, ensuring a seamless experience even if they switch devices.
