Chrome Enterprise Premium is the advanced, paid tier of Google's enterprise browser solution (launched in April 2024). While the standard “Core” version focuses on centralized management, the Premium version is a dedicated security upgrade designed to protect organizations from data leaks and advanced web-based threats.
Why Businesses Use It
- Securing Remote/BYOD Work: It turns the browser into a secure endpoint, meaning contractors or remote employees can safely access company data from personal laptops without needing a full VPN or VDI setup.
- AI Governance: It allows companies to monitor and restrict how employees interact with generative AI tools, preventing intellectual property from being fed into public models.
- Watermarking: In late 2024/2025, Google added the ability to overlay semi-transparent watermarks on sensitive web pages to deter data leaks via screen captures.
Core Pillars of Premium
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP): This is the flagship feature. It allows IT to set granular rules to prevent sensitive data (like credit card numbers or internal code) from being uploaded, pasted, or printed. As of 2026, this includes Deep Scanning for large files (up to 2GB) and encrypted files.
- Context-Aware Access: Implements a Zero Trust model where access to SaaS and private web apps is restricted based on the user's identity, location, and — crucially — the security posture of the device.
- Advanced Threat Protection: Goes beyond standard “Safe Browsing” by using AI-driven deep scanning to identify malware in downloaded files and real-time phishing protection.
- Chrome Security Insights: Provides a specialized dashboard with reporting on risky user behavior, “shadow AI” usage (unauthorized use of AI tools), and automated security event logging.
